If you’re reading this you are more than likely connected to me on social media. And, in that case, you will know I spent the entire month of October running and walking to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Here are five random things that occurred to me during my 233km journey

Misery – nobody smiles in the gym. Nobody. Not one person. I’m not surprised though, to be fair. People surely don’t go to the gym every day because they enjoy it, do they?

Eyes Wide Shut – I almost got lost on one of my 10km walks around Pennington Flash and the woods around that part of Leigh. ChatGPT kept telling me to head for Byrom Hall. I had never heard of Byrom Hall but, when I eventually got there, I realised I have probably driven past it a thousand times. I had never once taken any notice of it.

10km Golf – I played golf five times during the month. Obviously, to fulfil the rules of the challenge I needed to ensure I covered at least 10km during those rounds. No matter how well or badly I played, every round was plus or minus 200 metres from the 10km mark. This implies a level of consistency that has never, ever been present in my golf game.

Preparation – pre and post-exercise stretching and recovery are essential parts of preparation when running every day. I did neither, which explains why I ended up walking like C-3PO for 31 days.

Support – People are ridiculously generous. I know the cost of living is high and that we all need some breathing space because Andy Burnham keeps telling us we do. Which makes it even more incredible and humbling to see so many people contribute to the cause.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored me.
